Why is Fluency Important?

Fluent readers read words easily and accurately, with the rhythm and tone of speech. Because they don’t need to focus on decoding every word, they can devote their full attention to comprehending and enjoying the story itself. In this way, fluent reading leads to strong comprehension and a love of reading.

How Does This Program Build Fluency?

In this program, young readers build fluency in three ways. First, students build the strong long-word decoding skills needed for fluent reading. Second, they apply these skills in independent reading in books at the appropriate level of difficulty. Finally, through oral reading exercises, students learn to read smoothly and naturally, paying careful attention to punctuation and other textual clues. As a result, your child will enter third grade reading fluently.
